About Us

The Fred Schaufeld Scholarship Program launched in 2010 offers four-year academic college scholarships to low to moderate income graduates of Westbury High School in Old Westbury, New York to fulfill their dreams of a college education. Students must demonstrate financial need, a record of academic achievement, and a commitment to serving others through leadership and service activities (in school and/or in the community).

Applicants must also be aspirational in their plans for their future depicted by their ability to think beyond their current circumstances and willingness to venture out of their comfort zone. This aspiration can come through by a record of involvement in various academic, community, and social impact activities, both for these activities’ inherent value and enjoyment and connection to future goals.

The scholarship program offers mentoring, social and emotional support, assistance with academic program development, referrals to career and internship opportunities and financial support for college and other educational endeavors. Scholarships of a minimum of $5,000 per year for four years are offered to students for full-time study at accredited bachelor’s degree granting colleges and universities. The scholarship is paid directly to the recipient's college and is automatically renewed provided the student maintains the requisite GPA each semester and continues to be enrolled in college.

The Vision and Goals of the Program are to:

  • Provide stability assistance by providing academic, social, emotional, and financial supports to Schaufeld Scholars through college completion and beyond

  • Ensure that Schaufeld Scholars are able to attend college, realize their potential and persist in their collegiate academic studies and graduate with clear aspirational goals for their futures

Building upon the academic foundation provided by Westbury High School, the overarching goal of the Schaufeld Scholarship program is to help our scholars navigate their respective collegiate journeys and to tackle the rigors of their respective curriculums and to provide various programming supports including: mentoring, coaching, advocacy and support for programmatic, financial aid and other typical college challenges; career coaching to help with professional resume development, interview tips and preparation and LinkedIn page development and opportunities for scholars to help build their skills. life experience and networks to succeed in their chosen careers.
